🛑 Intersection of Doom – Monarto South

The notorious “Intersection of Doom” at Monarto South (intersection of Old Princess Hwy and the road from the freeway)has long been a danger point for locals and tourists alike. Despite already spending nearly half a million dollars, the government’s only solution so far has been to install two stop signs — a stop-gap measure that has done little to address the underlying safety risks.

My solution is different. I propose the construction of a roundabout — a design that has never been formally investigated by government. This approach not only fixes the intersection once and for all but also ensures it is road-train friendly, balancing the needs of freight operators, local commuters, and the steady stream of tourist traffic heading to Monarto, the gateway to the world’s largest African safari park outside Africa. This is the kind of long-term, practical solution the community deserves.

🚛 Slow Vehicle Turnout Lanes – Strathalbyn Region

The Strathalbyn region urgently needs slow vehicle turnout lanes to improve safety and reduce driver frustration. These lanes give slower vehicles — including trucks, farm machinery, and caravans — a safe place to pull aside and allow traffic to pass. Without them, impatient drivers are forced into dangerous overtaking manoeuvres on winding rural roads.

I speak from experience. Having personally driven trucks on the roads beyond Strathalbyn, I know first-hand the pressures and dangers of being stuck with a long line of vehicles behind. Turnout lanes will ease that burden, keep traffic flowing smoothly, and reduce tensions between locals, freight operators, and tourists. This project is about safety, empathy, and fairness — making rural roads work better for everyone.
